Reviews
We had a fantastic dinner here. The menu is creative, dishes are full of flavors and executed really well. Service is impeccable and the space of the restaurant is intimate. One of the best overall meals we had this year.
Beautiful location overlooking the bay. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food was very vegetable oriented, with great flavor combinations. 'Normal' wine pairing seemed great. I ordered the non-alcoholic pairing which was a bit disappointing. Very good juices with kombucha, but for every dish a kombucha is a bit too much kombucha.
To me, this summery vegetable-forward menu evokes the best nature poetry. There are specific dishes I could still taste, even though it's been a month since I ate here.
The pea soup (everyone's favorite) was an absolutely gorgeous drop of summer morning dew, like waking up after a restful sleep in fresh clean silk sheets.
Where the pea soup represented morning, the beet and nectarine combination was the plump, juicy afternoon of summer, bursting with an intoxicating joy.
Fast forward to dessert, the chocolate and cherry tart was a rich, decadent bite-sized piece of sin blossoming in the deep of the night.
My only issue was that service felt slightly aloof, and the pause between dessert courses were extraordinarily long, even after we asked twice for the meal to be sped up.
1. tomato, split pea, african marigold
2. yellow beetroot, nectarine, chanterelle
3. maitake, sea lettuce, dulse
4. sourdough
5. summer salade, magnolia, bisque
6. monkfish, sourdough, butter bean, lovage
7. lamb, carrot, chard, bay leaf
8. apricot, almond, orange blossom
9. tartelette, cacao, goat, cherry, hibiscus
10. canele, fig leaf
You need to make a reservation for this restaurant, which has no street presence at all. The attic location is very nice and the food is excellent. We had the seven course dinner. Courses had a good (small enough) size so that we managed to finish our dinner. Flavors and combinations were excellent, highly recommended. One minus is that espresso is not served, just filter coffee. But the food was really good and interesting, so still five stars.
We had a lovely lunch with a great view. The service was fantastic and everything that touched our lips were great! Definitely recommend dining here and to make sure you make reservations ahead of time! They were even wonderful enough to cater to our dietary restrictions.
A Meal Of Spring Garden. đ
Amsterdam summer could be unpredictable. But Bak provide a shelter for us to enjoy the view with refreshing food and find out all the dietary requirement of friends. No Beets, no lamb and peas. Bingo! all three ingredients are part of the original courses.
Menu comes in 5/7/9 courses.
I had the 5 courses, and itâs definitely not enough for a gown ass man like me. Only one protein was included in the 5 courses.
All veggies and plants are all home grown from the restaurant and almost all dishes has some representation of it. All being handled it different ways with the exceptional charcoal grill mushroom, fermented strawberry!
Not only the dish include Earth and plants, the plating also looks like a ,the Dutch painter, Van Gogh painting.
The meal end with Chocolate Tart with Goat Cheese and cannelĂ©. Actually a very surprising cannelĂ©. I donât like cannelĂ©.. because usually it is very chewy and cold and burnt. BUT this one.. itâs crunchy, soft and caramelised. Definitely want another one.
The restaurant is a bit hard to find, but once you're there, it has an amazing view. The staff is friendly, but less formal than you would expect for this kind of restaurant. The water is put on the table without pouring it in. The food is nicely presented and has some original combinations. The open kitchen is nice to watch.
What a fantastic gastronomical journey!
The restaurant is a unique Bauhaus inspired room, that is warm, comfortable and filled with wonderful music and gezelliheid. âŠ
